Inside the submersible

Descending in a Russian MIR submersible to 5025 metres in the South Atlantic Ocean

MIR being lowered into the sea

I have spent a great deal of my life doing things connected with the sea.

I have been a diver for for many years and spent over 15 years as a maritime historical researcher specialising in shipwrecks.

I am a member of the Society for Nautical Research, the Historical Diving Society and the Maritime Information Association.

Three Miles Down

In 1995 I was part of an expedition to find two sunken WW2 vessels in the South Atlantic. During this trip I visited in the seabed in a MIR submersible to a depth of 5025 metres.

The story of this search is told in James Hamilton-Paterson's book entitled Three Miles Down.

My day job is that of Website Manager at the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) in the UK.

East India Company Ships

I have a longstanding interest in the ships, voyages and seafarers of the East India Company and have built this website.

cordani.info

There is also a website in the pipeline about my Italian roots, called cordani.info which awaits my attention in a spare moment!
